LynxStak and LynxArray LR-3071-R  Artecon, Inc  6305 El Camino Real  Carlsbad, CA 92009-1606  (619) 931-5500  (619) 931-5527 (fax)  info@artecon.com  http://www.artecon.com

Feature summary: Both Lynx products are host-attached RAID arrays and support RAID levels 0, 0+1, 3, and 5. The LynxStak comprises individual stackable modules (controllers, disks, and tape) that interlock together for greater stability, each module having its own power supply. The LynxArray Series 3000 is available in either rack-mount or small tower configurations, each with nine module bays. Modules are interchangeable between LynxStak and LynxArray configurations, and the LynxArray tower housing can be removed for rack-mounting the array. All modules are hot-swapable. Dual, failover controllers can be configured in both products, and multi-host attachment is supported (up to four hosts: any combination of UNIX, Macintosh, PC under Windows 95/NT). The disk drives supplied for both units are Seagate 9.0GB, 7200 RPM drives, model ST19171N/W/WC.

Price: LynxStak (tested configuration): $16,250 (controller, three 9GB disks), external Exabyte Mammoth 8mm tape $7,295. Starting price for LynxStak < $10,000. LynxArray (tested configuration): $33,400 (dual controllers, six 9GB disks, rack-mount chassis), internal Exabyte Mammoth 8mm tape $7,395. Starting price $18,995 for 27GB array.

Evaluation: Good performance and solid, but innovative engineering combine to make the LynxStak and LynxArray excellent choices for entry-level RAID systems.
