OPEN FORUM PLUS!

• Linux Cluster Demo Night: By Jeremy Mann
  Jeremy will be going over his Linux Cluster Project whish chows how he ties together several Linux servers into one high powered work horse that that blow the doors off most high priced number crunching single board systems today!

  If you don't know anything about clustering, or what it can do fro you (or your company) you need to check this out! Server clustering can do anything from giving you a super high availability server farm, give your company a low cost super computer, or just turbo charge your Divix/VCD encoding, or put you waaay up there at Seti@home.

  Jeremy will be going over the current state of Clustering on Linux, and will answer specific technical questions after the presentation.




• Doing Tape Backups on Linux: By Tweeks and Kent Polk
  Tweeks will start off the presentation with going over the basics of doing system tape backups. He'll be covering the basics of which directories to backup (and which NOT to), backup tools and how they differ (Tar, dump, cpio.. yes, the old fashion way ;). And then talk a bit about how to schedule backups, shutting down services, and talk about the different types of backup strategies: Full, Incremental, Grandfather, etc. This will all be done on on his dual proc Red Hat system with a DDS tape drive.

  Kent Polk is going to be doing a very nice follow up presentation on doing backups on Linux with Amanda (also see here). It sounds like it is VERY thorough. Some of us can't wait to check out this free-software solution for production grade backups!
