Designing Your Network

• Goal: To get your network IP space organized and planned out

• Reserve first 5-20 IPs for static machine/server mappings (1-20)

  • 1 for firewall/gateway (DHCP, DNS, NTP)
  • 2 for fileserver (SMB, NFS, FTP), 3 for web server(HTTP), etc...

• Bulk of middle 255 IPs go for dynamic DHCP client use (21-230)

• Upper 25 IPs reserved for network devices (231-254)

  • 250 for Wireless AP
  • 254 for other gateway

• Q: What Ports and IPs need to get through?

• Q: Do you need port mapping (DNAT) thorugh your firewall?

• Q: Do you need a DMZ?
