- X-otic Hardware #1: HAM/Wireless Computer Demo, by Steve Humlicek
Steve Humlicek is going to try to pull together a HAM/Computer demo to show "several freeware programs [and the HAM hardware?] that Hams are using to communicate with there radio and computers.". According to Steve, "they are using the sound card as a DSP type device to code and decode live text msgs back and forth, plus send what is called slowscan tv signals.."!Tom says, "This has always been an interest of mine and I know that I'm hoping to use this to help get me started into the whole HAM/Computer/Wireless arena.".
- X-otic OS Installs, by Nate Durr
Nate will be installing BeOS5 for a newcomer. We will also have Mankrake Linux 8.0 on hand in case anyone wants an install of that along with all the great Desktop Apps that it comes with.
- Hardware Trouble Shooting, by Thomas Weeks
Tom will be giving a brief on how to troubleshoot basic hardware problems... and how to definitely isolate, say RAM problems from CPU problems. With some basic Linux trouble shooting tools like Memtest86 and CPUburn-in respectively. Such tools are helpful for those wanting to diagnose their own problems, and are also a MUST for those who are into the black art of overclocking.Tom will also share some info on using things like "Toms Root Boot" (different Tom) or the linuxcare bbc (bootbale business card)--to boot any system from a Linux floppy disk or CD, for doing emergency partition rebuilds and the like. This should be very informative.
- X-otic Hardware #2: Palm/VNC Remote Control Demo, by ???
Since we don't have a Visor/Palm Modem, we're not sure if this one is going to happen or not... as setting up PPP over a "null-USB link" (if you will) on Linux is no small order. If Tom or Daniel does not do it, then we will at least have info on the process, what is needed, and some screen shots. For those who don't know about VNC, we did a live demo on it back at the March meeting. For more info, see the VNC home page.
- Free Schtuff!
Tom has some extra Linux Journal magazine giveaways this month for those who are interested.

From requests from the March 2001 meeting, a review of Norton Ghost and Partition Magic. Good technical info! Our February 2001 meeting's RAID-101 Slide presentation, in its native Star Office .sdd format and (for you Windowz folks) in MS Power point .ppt format. Let me know if the .ppt file is garbled. Check out our own "Firewall & Broadband Research List". MUCH useful info. Also, the popular "October-2000" DNS/Traceroute notes taken down by Daniel. The XCSSA Archives: We have so much good stuff demo'd at our group, we've decided to start archiving the montly group pages. Check'em out! This is what we have from 2000-05 on and should give you a good idea about the type of stuff that we do on a regular basis... Hardware Trouble Shooting Tools from the June 18th Meeting. Lists out specifics on what tools to use to t-shoot hardware problems from RAM, to CPU, to hard drive--and also lists a couple of great emergency recovery boot tools to fix hard drives, partitions, etc.!
- Check out this month's SATLUG (Linux group) meeting! Happening soon!
- Things are looking up for the Amiga as it is sold to "Amiga.com" and the industry watches the domino effect of partnering and group efforts (including those like Sun Microsystems and Tao-Group) develop along with Corel & Red Hat Linux!
